Course Length: September 18 - October 24 Specific course dates and time: 9AM to 12:30PM on 9/18, 9/19, 9/25, 9/26, 10/9, 10/10, 10/23, 10/24 Job Description: Main responsibilities include standard course management tasks with a focus on grading. Qualifications: Required: You should be both analytical and highly literate so you can distinguish between good and not so good papers, and can handle questions coming from a large class. There are group papers and presentations that you will assist in grading. Desired: Interest in leadership, change management and organization issues. Course Description: Business environments contain challenges that demand an increasing pace, volume and complexity of organizational changes. Most organizations, whether they are entrepreneurial start-ups or long-established Fortune 500 firms, find that they must change or wither. This course is geared toward deepening students understanding of the challenges, the techniques, and the burdens associated with initiating and implementing major change in an organization. Throughout the course, the objective will be to prepare leaders, or their consultants and advisers, to meet the challenges of organizational change successfully. As such, the course is especially useful for students who plan careers in management consulting, general management (whether in line or staff positions) and entrepreneurship. The perspective on change adopted in this course is that competitive advantage today is less a matter of determining the right strategy than of implementing it faster and more successfully than your competitors. As a result, this course concentrates on process, or how change can be most effectively implemented. In keeping with the emphasis on change process, the course focuses on the exploration and classroom discussion of cases illustrating different change efforts in a variety of organizations across a diverse range of business contexts. The exploration of these cases and, through them, the understanding of the complex and intricate process of initiating and implementing change, is the central focus of the course. The course reading materials are a compilation of cases, primarily from HBR. Professor Bio: Lynn has over 25 years of consulting experience in organizational strategies and transformation. Her expertise is focused in organizational transformation, organizational design, operating models, organizational diagnostics, culture, and leadership alignment. This work focuses around mergers and acquisitions, organizational alignment around new business strategies as well as operational and performance improvements. She has also worked with numerous executives on transitioning into new positions, setting priorities, evaluating team dynamics, and leadership platform planning.
